The Cabinet Office today publishes the results of a ten-month Strategy Unit project looking at food policy across Government - and concludes that rising demand, climate change, and trade and productivity restrictions must all be addressed.
Commissioned by the Prime Minister, the report focuses on food issues in the UK and puts them in a global context. It draws together evidence about long-term trends in food production and consumption, and how food safety and nutrition impact on the health of the UK.

A survey has confirmed that public opposition to the introduction of alternate weekly collections dramatically decreases when the change is accompanied by improvements in recycling services and the introduction of food waste collections.
Letsrecycle.com reports that the findings of research by Ipsos Mori were revealed at the Resource Recovery Forum's 'Alternate Weekly Collection' conference, held in London on Monday (July 6), with attitudes to AWC surveyed among 2,037 members of the public, including those with and without fortnightly residual waste collections.

The Waste Strategy for England 2007 sets out a blueprint for waste prevention and re-use, landfill diversion and investment in waste infrastructure. To ensure the strategy is a success, illegal waste activity must be effectively tackled. Illegal waste activity, predominantly fly-tipping is a significant threat to the environment, as well as the quality of life of the general public.

We are running four free workshops for compost site managers to meet together with the regulator and trade body to discuss odours and how to minimise them and also consider how to work effectively with local communities on this issue.

New research into quality composts derived from green waste that meet the BSI’s PAS100 specification has led to a partial lifting of the moratorium on the use of such composts on Quality Meat Scotland Assured farms.
The Board of QMS and NFU Scotland have agreed the move following assurances from the research carried out by The Macaulay Institute’s Land Use Research Centre and funded by WRAP (Waste Resources Action Programme) Scotland. Additional controls will be required on its application to QMS members’ land.
